I chose Ruth as my character because she was a strong woman who had faith in God.
Even when everything was not going so well, she never gave up.
I truly believe that Ruth was an extraordinary woman. In today’s society we forget to have at least a mustard seed of faith, and Ruth never lost sight of that.
What surprised me the most was her strong faith in God, even though she did not grow up believing. I really love how Ruth told Naomi, “ …your people will be my people and your God my God” (Ruth 1:16).
God is not really mentioned as interacting with the people in the story, but you can definitely see the interplay of God’s purposes alongside human decisions. As humans, when things go great we praise God, but as soon as things are in disarray, we get angry with God.
Just like in the story, we need to learn to trust that God is working behind the scenes. We need to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are to continue to have faith in God. Just like Ruth did.
Like Ruth, I am a very loyal person and, even when things are dark and gloomy, I always have faith that God is going to bring out the light.
As a child, I was physically abused by my father. Every Sabbath, my father would teach my Sabbath School class. Yet, I knew that the second church was over, I was in for it. After every fight, I would pray and read my Bible.
There were times I wanted to give up. I was so tired and felt God wasn’t there.
When I turned 18, I got pregnant and things changed for the better. I left to start a better life with my son and now husband. When I left, my mom and sister followed suit. Now, we are all living great, happy lives.
We all just need to have that mustard seed of faith, like Ruth.
