“In 2015 I learned that I could either manage the symptoms of my autoimmune disease by taking damaging steroids for the rest of my life, or undergo major surgery. I chose surgery. For four days this bed was my recovery island where a few visitors came to companion me through the shattering pain and slow return of strength. Every day since surgery I choose to participate in my own recovery, and I choose companionship; to give and receive. Even when there is no cure, there is healing.”
